Acupuncture is the use of hair-thin needles to stimulate specific acupuncture points to regulate the whole body’s energy flow. There are a total of 12 regular meridians running through the whole body similar to 12 rivers running in our physical landscape. Every meridian is linked to one organ system. Energy flow is like the waters flowing in the river. When there is a blockage to the flow of the water, the river may overflow or backflow causing our body to suffer pain from this blockage. So when a needle is inserted into the right point and with the right technique, it can unblock and influence the flow of the river, and therefore restore the balance of your energy.
When you come in, Jean will evaluate your whole body’s situation, and choose three or more meridians to work on. Every point has one or multiple functions. So specific points on specific meridians will be chosen by Jean to work as a group toward one goal or to work side-by-side to achieve multiples goals in one treatment.
The acupuncture needles are sterile and solid in form. They will be disposed of after each use. Acupuncture is very safe.
Everyone will feel slightly different toward the needle sensation. Most reported needle sensations after insertion are: heaviness, tingling, relaxed, hot, or cold etc. These are all normal sensations. What is happening is that the acupuncture point is being activated by Jean through using the needles and the body is sending the reaction or energy to the point. Normally, the more sensation you experience the better results you will have. Sometimes it is normal for patients not to have any sensation after needle insertion. This may indicate a blockage or qi deficiency in that channel and qi is slower to come to the point for the patient to feel. But rest assured, Jean will sense if the acupuncture points are activated or not, even if the patient does not feel it.
